We have heard the saying that if you "change your mind...you will change your life" but what does that really mean? Well, from time eternal no matter what your spiritual beliefs are, every spiritual, new thought, philosphoical writing references the idea that our lives are a direct reflection of our thoughts. Have you ever woke up and said " I hate Monday's or today is going to suck" and sure enough Murphy's law happens 'everything that could go wrong does'. My personal favorite is when the media and pharmaceutical companies decide its "flu season" and then everyone is rushing around to get flu shots and are constantly worried about getting the flu and guess what....THEY GET THE FLU!
These are a just a few examples of how our mind can create scenarios that line up with our thoughts. In that same token, my favorite saying is "what my mind can believe, I can acheive". So if you believe you will get the flu- YOU WILL! (incidentally, I have never had the flu nor taken flu shots- inject me with flu strains to boost my immune system so I DONT get the flu- no ma'm!)
So in theory if you just change your mind- your life will be peachy- right? Absolutely! But here's the next question- how do I just change my mind? I have always been overweight! I have always been a person who worries alot! I have always been shy! I have always been...Well...first of all you have not always been anything. You chose to be those things and yes our upbringing and our environment has a lot to do with our thoughts and beliefs - but if you decided to take on those beliefs - it stands to reason that you can choose to let them go.
One way of acheiving a change in mindset is through hypnosis. No, I am not talking about that watch swinging, barking like a dog type of hypnosis. That's for entertainment purposes only. I am speaking of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is a combination of life coaching where we identify what challenges you are having, what blockages are standing in your way of living your optimum life. Once these blockages are identified, we then use very specific hypnosis suggestions (note the terminology- suggestions, not commands) to help remove those blockages, change those beliefs, alleviate those fears and substiute those negative beliefs with positive affirmations.
One of the beliefs surrounding hypnosis is the fear that the hypnotist can "make" you do something you do not desire or that they implant weird thoughts in your mind. This is not true. Your mind will only receive those suggestions that you desire. I tell my clients what ever I say to you under hypnosis would be no different than what I would say to you in a fully alert state. During hypnosis you are in a relaxed state of mind and body, similar to meditation. You are fully aware of everything I am saying. You are aware of the music playing and the sounds around you. You are just very relaxed. Imagine watching your favorite television show and your are so engrossed in the show that when someone walks in the room they have to almost touch you or shout to get your attention. You were aware they were there but your mind was so focused on the television. That is a state of hypnosis.
